Like your DNA, your HLA markers are inherited from your parents and from your ancestors. That is why donors are more likely to match patients with similar ethnicity.

YOUR AGE AND HERITAGE MATTER
There are not enough young registry members of diverse racial and ethnic heritage to help all patients in need of a marrow transplant. Our mission is to change that by adding more young, diverse registry members. Remember, people 18 - 44 are 10 times more likely to be called to donate.

MYTH:: I have to pay to donate
FACT:: You never have to pay to donate to a patient. Travel costs are paid; other costs are reimbursed on a case-by-case basis.
MYTH:: Donating is painful
FACT:: There can be some discomfort, but most people are back to their routines in a few days.
